On January 4, 2017, TOTAL Specialties USA (TSUSA) reached a momentous safety milestone; the employees worked 10 years (2,612 days, approximately 3,685,000 hours and counting) without a single lost time injury. To put this in perspective, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports indicate that in 2015 alone, there were 1.5 million accidents in US workplaces, which involved time away from work, job transfers or restrictions. The employees at TOTAL have adopted the Company’s motto that “safety is not just a priority, it is a value.” Bernie Kordelski, Manager QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety and Environment) for TSUSA said “This safety milestone is a testament to the fact that all employees, regardless of their work location, are committed to safety on the job at all times.”
On Tuesday, March 21, 2017 the City Council of Linden, New Jersey signed a Proclamation declaring Wednesday, March 22, 2017 “TOTAL Safety Day.” Linden Mayor Derek Armstead presented Steve Daubert, Vice President of Human Resources, and Bernie Kordelski, with the Proclamation at Linden’s City Council Meeting that evening.
“I am quite proud of this safety accomplishment,” said TSUSA President and CEO Ernst Wanten, “and I look forward to many more safe years of operations at all of our work locations” he said as he presented a crystal safety award to Bernie Kordelski during a Safety Awareness Recognition ceremony at the Linden office. Mayor Armstead and several members of the Linden City Council attended the luncheon celebration held at the Linden facility, where they formally presented the Safety Day Proclamation to TSUSA President and CEO, Ernst Wanten. An appreciation ceremony luncheon was held on March 22 for all employees in the TSUSA Houston, TX, Rockingham, NC, Tampa, FL and Linden offices to thank them for their continuing efforts and contribution towards maintaining a safe workplace.
