USA beat Paraguay and sits on top of Group A

(June 11 2016) In Philadelphia, the local and host USA beats Paraguay by one goal and secured their place into Copa América Centenario’s quarterfinals. In Texas, Colombia ended up in the Group A’s 2nd place by losing 3-2 against Costa Rica.   

Day 9

The first game of the day was between USA and Paraguay, the local won by a Clint Dempsey goal. This victory for the USA meant that Paraguay is now officially out of the competition.

This is the second time in history USA makes it to the second round of this tournament. USA tied Colombia with 6 points but wins the group on goal difference.

Costa Rica kept José Pekerman’s team from Group A first place by winning 3-2 in Texas. The ‘’Ticos’’, with 0 goals in the whole tournament, left this Copa América Centenario’s tournament with style by playing an outstanding game showing an excellent level of football. 

Ramírez’s team began winning by an awesome goal from Venegas, but Frank Fabra made it 1-1 for the Colombians in the 7th minute of the game. After scoring a goal for Colombia, the same Fabra scored an own goal in the 34th minute making the score 2-1 in favor of the Central-American team. In the 2nd half, Borges, thanks to an excellent team job, scored a goal in the 54th minute making the score 3-1. Finally, Marlos Moreno from Colombia scored to make it 3-2.

This Sunday group C play will be closing. First, the match between Haiti and Ecuador will be played. Later that same day, Brazil will be taking on Peru to determine which team will be playing in the Copa América Centenario’s quarterfinals.
