United States is the first team to reach Copa America Centenario’s semi-final
(June 16th, 2016) The host team beat the Tricolor 2-1 in Seattle, and is now among the best four teams of the tournament. During an exciting match, Dempsey and Zardes’ goals led Klinsmann’s squad over Ecuador; Arroyo pulled one back for the Quinteros team.
Copa America Centenario’s quarterfinals have kicked off and Seattle hosted the clash between United States, Group A leader, and Ecuador, who came in second in Group B to Peru.
In the CenturyLink Field stadium, the host team delivered its best performance during most of the game and beat a tough Ecuadorian team, who only came alive in the second half and almost snatches the draw towards the last minutes.
Clint Dempsey, the team’s top scorer, scored an early goal and made it 1-0 in the first half, while Gyasi Zardes rolled in the second in the second half, with number 9’s assist. Michael Arroyo, fifteen minutes before the end, hit back, making for a tense ending.
The quarterfinals’ second match will take place this Friday. Peru and Colombia will clash at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium, with Patricio Loustau as referee.
