(June 12 2016) Copa América Centenarios’s Group B is officially closed and Peru beat Brazil with a very controversial goal, dumping Brazil out of the competition. Ecuador hammered Haiti 4-0, earning a spot in quarterfinals.

Day 10

Ecuador had no mercy and thrashed Haiti 4-0, with goals scored by Enner Valencia, Jaime Ayovi, Christian Noboa and Antonio Valencia.

Thanks to the victory, the “tricolor’’ booked a spot in quarterfinals and will face USA on June 16 in Seattle’s CenturyLink Field stadium.

Later that day, Peru and Brazil determined the other quarterfinal team at Boston’s Gillete Stadium. In an exciting match, Ricardo Gareca’s team won 1-0 thanks to Raúl Ruidiaz’s goal. It is the first time since 1987 that Brazil has been eliminated before knockout stages.

The Peruvian goal on apparent handball in the 74th minute of the game was very controversial, but after extensive discussion, the Uruguayan referee Andrés Cunha finally awarded the goal. That said, Peru will be facing Colombia in quarterfinals at MetLife Stadium on June 17.

Group C’s top will be on the line when Mexico faces Venezuela this Monday at Houston NRG Stadium. Already-eliminated Jamaica and Uruguay will be closing their participation in this Copa America Centenario’s edition at Levi’s Stadium.
